SUMMARY

As an Assistant Technical Director, Design, you will support the Technical Director, Design, in evaluating tool and method requirements and adapting the tools used for design throughout the production process. You will also assist in providing technical support to other level designers regarding the selected tools and methods and participate in the integration of map systems into the game engine.


RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist the Technical Director, Design, in reviewing game design documents to identify the technical needs of the level design team.
  • Test the selected tools and methods or suggest improvements to the programming team in coordination with the Technical Director.
  • Regularly communicate technical constraints and their justifications to the level design team.
  • Research, propose, and test tools and methods to enhance and facilitate the work of the level design team.
  • Participate in the creation of training materials and the organization of sessions for level design team members to ensure they use the tools and methods correctly.
  • Coordinate the use of tools and act as a liaison between the level design and programming teams.
  • Draft the file nomenclature created by the level design team.
  • Provide continuous technical support for the tools and the game engine to level design team members.
  • Participate in the continuous improvement of processes and engine constraint repositories in collaboration with the Technical Director.

Job requirements

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or equivalent training/experience.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience as a technical level designer or technical designer.
  • Experience working on at least two (2) published games from design to release, preferably on an ‘AAA’ console title.
  • Good knowledge of the Unreal game engine.
  • Good knowledge of animation pipelines (scripted events, cinematics).
  • Proficiency in scripting (Blueprint, Python, or any interpreted language).
  • Strong team spirit and teaching skills.
  • Ability to adapt to change and support the Technical Director’s initiatives.
  • Ability to motivate and inspire others to generate new ideas.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Proficient in writing technical documents.

Work Location

For this position, a presence at the Montreal, Canada office is required for a minimum of two days per week.
